C’est avec beaucoup de fierté que nous annonçons aujourd’hui que le court métrage My Fathers’s Tools (Les outils de mon père) (Québec, 2016) de la réalisatrice gaspésienne Heather Condo de la communauté Gesgapegiag de la Baie-des-Chaleurs en Gaspésie, présenté en première mondiale lors du 8e Festival Les Percéides en août dernier à Percé, vient d’être sélectionné au prestigieux Festival de cinéma de Sundance qui se déroulera du 19 au 29 janvier prochain à Park City (Utah) aux États-Unis. Le documentaire magnifiquement réalisé raconte de manière très sensible la fabrication de paniers traditionnels dans la communauté autochtone et met en lumière l’attachement lié à cette « tradition ». Le film a été tourné et produit en Gaspésie en collaboration avec Wapikoni Mobile, un studio de production de films destinés au cinéma autochtone. Le film sera présenté dans la section : DOCUMENTARY SHORT FILMS SUNDANCE 2017.
À propos de la réalisatrice Heather Condo
Heather Condo est née à Maria (Gaspésie) au Québec en 1971. Elle a été adoptée et a grandi au Massachussetts. Puis, en 2005, Heather revient s’installer à Gesgapegiag où sa famille élargie réside. Ses intérêts incluent la chasse, la pêche, la peinture et les voyages. C’est à l’incitation de son fils qu’elle réalise My Father’s Tools avec le studio de production cinématographique Wapikoni mobile.

Rappelons que le film My Father’s Tools a remporté le prix Géoparc de Percé-Telus-Orléans (Une valeur de $ 3500) lors du Gala du court métrage gaspésien présenté par le Festival Les Percédies en août dernier à Percé.

The Gaspesian – « My Father’s Tool » to be shown at Sundance
The short film « My Father’s Tool » by Gesgapegiag Native director Heather Condo has just been selected to be shown at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival in the United States.
« It is with great pride that we announce that the short film My Fathers’ Tool (Quebec, 2016) by the Gaspésian director Heather Condo, which was presented at the 8th Les Percéides Festival in Percé last August has been selected to be presented at the Sundance Film Festival which will be held from 19 to 29 January in Park City, Utah, « confirms François Cormier, Artistic Director and Program Manager at the Percé International Film and Art Festival .
The documentary tells a very sensitive story about the making of traditional baskets in the indigenous community and highlights the attachment linked to this tradition. The film was shot and produced in the Gaspésie in collaboration with Wapikoni Mobile, a film production studio for Aboriginal cinema. The film will be featured in the short film section.
Heather Condo was born in Maria in 1971. She was adopted and raised in Massachusetts. Then, in 2005, she returned to settle in Gesgapegiag where her extended family resides. Her interests include hunting, fishing, painting and travel. It is at the encouraging of her son that she realized My Father’s Tools.
The film My Father’s Tool won the Percé-Telus-Orléans Award ($3,500) at the Gaspésie Short Film Gala presented by the Festival Les Percédies last August in Percé.
